All-Star Top 10

Of all the players participating in the All-Star game festivities, I narrowed down to the top ten and put them right here. I scored the players in two different sets; hitters and pitchers. I then combined them by seeing how a hitter was relative to the top hitter and a pitcher was relative to the top pitcher. For example, Brett Graves is the third best in my rankings because he is worth 98% of the top pitcher compared to Ben Roberts who is worth 90% of the top hitter. So, without further ado, I present my All-Star Top 10 player rankings.

Player
JP Sportman
Age: 21 (DOB: Jan 26, 1992)
Bats: Right  Throws: Right
Position: CF
Summer Team: Keene Swamp Bats
College: Central Connecticut U
Year: Junior
Sportman is the best hitter in the NECBL this year thanks to a .394/.463/.596 line that has been tough to compare to anybody. He leads the league in average by 24 points and also has 10 doubles (tied for second) and 21 RBIs (also second). Sportman will be leading the Western team from his outfield spot, and is going to be a pain to deal with.

John Miles
Age: 20 (DOB: Oct 21, 1992)
Bats: Right  Throws: Right
Position: RHP
Summer Team:Vermont Mountaineers
College: U of Missouri (Columbia)
Year: Sophomore

Miles is the best pitcher in the league, as he has dominated for the Mountaineers. He leads the league in ERA, as he hasn't given up a run over 24 innings of work. He's also give up just six walks and eight hits while striking out 20, as well as limiting opponents to a .096 batting average. Miles will be starting for the West in the All-Star game.

Player
Brett Graves
Age: 20 (DOB: Jan 30, 1993)
Bats: Right  Throws: Right
Position: RHP
Summer Team: Newport Gulls
College: U of Missouri (Columbia)
Year: Junior

Graves barely falls behind fellow University of Missouri John Miles in these rankings. Graves has been dominant in his second year in Newport, as he boasts a 4-0 record with a 0.61 ERA over 29 and a third innings pitched. He's also struck out 27 and walked nine. Graves isn't starting for the East, as he was beat out by Laconia starter Will Blalock but be ready to see dominance if he comes out of the bullpen during the All-Star game.

Player
Michael Burke
Age: 20 (DOB: Aug 27, 1992)
Bats: Right  Throws: Right
Position: RHP
Summer Team: Holyoke Blue Sox
College: U of Buffalo
Year: Senior
team logo
Burke, the number two pitcher (behind John Miles) on the Western roster has had an impressive year. Over six starts totaling 46 innings pitched (first in the league), Burke holds a 0.39 ERA that is second in the NECBL. He also has 37 Ks and just seven walks and has held opponents to a .246 average against him. Burke, a senior at the University of Buffalo, is definitely the second best pitcher on the Western Division roster.

Player
Steven Rice
Age: 20 (DOB: Dec 26, 1991)
Bats: Left  Throws: Left
Position: LHP
Summer Team: Sanford Mainers
College: Vanderbilt
Year: Senior
team logo
Rice, a lefty from Vanderbilt, has been blowing it by opposing hitters out of the bullpen for Sanford. In seven appearances, Rice has a 1.12 ERA with 28 strikeouts and just seven walks over 16 innings. He's also added a 3-1 record and three saves. If this game is close near the end, except Rice to start warming up- he's the Eastern Division closer.

Player
Ben Roberts
Age: 20 (DOB: Sep 7, 1992)
Bats: Left  Throws: Right
Position: RF
Summer Team: Newport Gulls
College: Washington St.
Year: Junior
team logo
Roberts has hit the ball extremely well this summer, as he has been an anchor on the best team in the league (by record), the Newport Gulls. Roberts has slugged 14 doubles, tops in the league, on his way to a .336 average and 18 RBIs. Roberts will be starting in the outfield for the Eastern Division and will be facing off against the best outfielder in the West, JP Sportman.

Player
Caden Bailey
Age: 20 (DOB: Apr 13, 1993)
Bats: Left  Throws: Right
Position: 2B/SS
Summer Team: Ocean St. Waves
College: Georgia St. U
Year: Junior
team logo
Bailey was snubbed and was named as an alternate on this years Eastern Division roster, but in reality deserved much more than that. Bailey has played the most games in the league, and is hitting .321 with three home runs and 20 RBIs for the Waves. He has also been stellar on defense, with a .882 fielding percentage at short and 11 putouts.
Rank

Player
Steve Anderson
Age: 21 (DOB: Sep 17, 1991)
Bats: Left  Throws: Right
Position: 1B
Summer Team: Newport Gulls
College: Georgetown
Year: Senior
team logo
Anderson is a force to beware of in the middle of the Gulls lineup, as he has 30 RBIs, first in the league. He may only have a .242 batting average, but Anderson is a huge contributor for the first-place Gulls. He also has hit three home runs and nine doubles, and adds another 16 runs scored. Anderson will be a threat that will probably hit around 3-5 in the Eastern lineup, which will give opposing pitchers quite the task to complete.
Rank

Player
Kyle Wilcox
Age: 19 (DOB: Jun 14, 1994)
Bats: Right  Throws: Left
Position: LHP
Summer Team: Newport Gulls
College: Bryant U
Year: Sophomore
team logo
Wilcox has been the definition of consistent, as in 11 appearances out of the bullpen for the Gulls, he has a 0.00 ERA with a 1-0 record and five saves. He's also struck out 20 over his 14 innings pitched, and has given up just 11 hits while holding opposing hitters to a .281 batting average. Wilcox is listed as the #3 pitcher on the Eastern roster, so expect to see him out there and throwing strikes.
Rank
10
Player
Joe Torres
Age: 21 (DOB: Sep 17, 1991)
Bats: Right  Throws: Right
Position: OF
Summer Team: Laconia Muskrats
College: Iona
Year: Senior
Torres made the All-Star game roster as the fourth outfielder, but his numbers may sway peoples opinions. Torres is the perfect leadoff hitter, as he has speed and can get on. Through 26 games, Torres has 29 hits and 19 walks, as well as 19 stolen bases and 18 runs scored. He was cut out of a starting All-Star job by Santomauro, Gerber and Roberts but his numbers say different.
