Mulry, a 6-foot-3 lefty of West Roxbury, Mass. struck out the Red Sox's top two hitters- Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz- back-to-back.
He threw three innings, striking out two and walking two while allowing three hits and one earned run as the Huskies fought hard- even leading the defending world series champion 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning of a seven inning game. However, Boston put up a four spot in the bottom frame to earn the win.
Mulry was a member of last season's NECBL runner-ups, the Newport Gulls. He went 4-1 with a 1.92 ERA as one of the aces in a talented Gulls rotation. Other than the Red Sox start, Mulry is 0-1 in two games started with a 14.40 ERA in five innings.
"How many years from now? Why that long?" said Ortiz, who acknowledged the crowd with a laugh after going down on strikes. "He could have a drink tonight and say, 'I struck out Papi.'"
He got Pedroia to start the third, getting him on a fastball away. He set down Ortiz with a two-strike slider that sent the World Series MVP to the dugout.

The Huskies (1-5) play again on March 1st against Central Michigan for the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla.
