Wednesday's Probable Pitchers: Elimination Games

NOTE: Christian Lavoie is starting tonight's game for the Sanford Mainers, not Adcock. The game has been pushed back to 7 p.m. due to rain.

No. 1 seeds Plymouth and Vermont both advanced in sweeps while NECBL fans will be treated to two elimination games as both the Newport Gulls and Sanford Mainers rallied for wins to force Game Threes.

No. 3 Keene at No. 2 Sanford, Goodall Park, 6:30 p.m. (Series tied 1-1)

Alec Bettinger (Swamp Bats): Keene looks to advance to their fourth divisional finals in a row in the winner-take-all game three as they send Bettinger, a sophomore from Virginia, to the hill. He went 6-0 as a freshman with a 1.23 ERA for the D-I runner up Cavaliers, and has a 2.36 ERA for the Swamp Bats this summer. He has yet to ace the Mainers, but has 22 strikeouts in 19 innings over five appearances and three starts.

Brett Adcock (Mainers): A Louisville Freshman All-American and a member of the Big Ten All-Freshman team, Adcock went 7-4 with a 2.87 ERA in 26 appearances for Michigan. The southpaw has made four starts for Sanford this year, and is 3-2 over six total appearances with a 2.45 ERA. He's overpowering on the mound with 31 strikeouts over 25 2/3 innings while h's issued just three walks. Adcock gave up just two runs the last time he faced Keene, a tough loss over six innings of work in which he struck out seven.

No. 3 Ocean State at No. 2 Newport, Cardines Field, 6:35 p.m. (Series tied 1-1)

Ocean State didn't provide a probable pitcher.

Jack Patterson (Gulls): As a freshman, Patterson established himself as one of the top starters on Bryant, one of the top teams in the Northeast Conference. He's 4-3 with the Gulls this summer, and he has a 3.50 ERA over 11 appearances and seven starts. Patterson gives up a lot of hits- 47 in 43 2/3 innings- but he also has 43 strikeouts. He's faced the Waves twice over nine total innings, and he's allowed just three runs while striking out five.
