Monday's Probable Pitchers: Playoffs

The NECBL Playoffs are underway tonight, with eight teams in action. New Bedford, Danbury, North Adams and Valley all went home empty handed.

No. 4 Laconia vs. No. 1 Vermont, Recreation Field at 6:30 p.m.

Jack English (Muskrats): The rising senior at Florida Gulf Coast toes the rubber against a Mountaineers squad he shut down last time out. On July 5th, he went seven shutout innings at Recreation Field and allowed just three hits while striking out five. He's an impressive 4-1 on the season with a 1.52 ERA over seven starts. He has 40 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings of work.

Ryan Davis (Mountaineers): Vermont sends Ryan Davis to the mound, a southpaw from Le Moyne who had success against the Muskrats on opening night- even earning him NECBL Pitcher of the Week honors. Davis went six shutout innings and struck out four while issuing just one walk. Laconia figured him out the second time around, however, as he gave up seven runs (three earned) over just 3 1/3 innings of work in his shortest start of the summer. He's currently turned in three straight quality starts and is 3-1 with a 2.67 ERA on the season.

No. 3 Keene vs. No. 1 Sanford, Goodall Park at 6:30 p.m.

Matt Blandino (Swamp Bats): A 33rd round pick last year, Blandino is a righty from Central Connecticut State. He's split his time between the bullpen and rotation for Keene, and has turned in a complete game effort in one of his six starts. Blandino has an ERA of 3.99 and a 2-2 record. His complete game was a gem as he allowed just two earned runs and issued a lone walk while striking out three.

Nick Poore (Mainers): A southpaw who is a rising senior from Boston College, Poore has been excellent on a Mainers team that ranks second in the NECBL in ERA. He's 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four starts and three relief appearances. He's yet to face the Swamp Bats, but has turned a pair of quality starts (back-to-back) and hasn't allowed more then an earned run per appearance. He also has 25 strikeouts in 25 innings and has issued just seven walks.

No. 3 Ocean State vs. No. 1 Newport, Cardines Field at 6:35 p.m.

Mitchell Jordan (Waves): A sophomore righthander from Stetson, Jordan has been the ace of the Waves rotation. He's made eight appearances, six of which were starts, and is 4-1 with a 2.20 ERA. It's first on the team among pitchers who have started more then two games and he's struck out an impressive 27 in 32 1/3 innings of work. He's faced Newport twice this season- in a start and out of the bullpen and has given up three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings of work while striking out three.

John Kilichowski (Gulls): A sophomore from the D-I champion Vanderbilt Commodores, Kilichowski has carried over his collegiate success to Newport. The righty pitched in the College World Series and was dominant over four starts with the Gulls so far this summer. He's 2-2, but hasn't given up more then one earned run in any of his starts and has turned in back-to-back double-digit numbers in strikeouts. In his last start, he blanked North Adams over seven innings with 12 strikeouts and has an impressive 12.4 strikeouts per nine innings. Perfect Game clocked him at 90 with a plus curveball and a rare changeup.

No. 4 Mystic vs. No. 1 Plymouth, Forges Field at 6:30 p.m.

Michael Concato (Schooners): Dartmouth's Rookie of the Year, Concato is a 6-1 righty who has been dominant through sevens starts. He's 2-0 with a 1.61 ERA and is currently on an impressive 21 scoreless innings streak. He's gone three straight shutout starts of 6, 8, 6 and has three quality starts on the season. Concato faced Plymouth on June 29th and went five innings, allowing three runs- just one of which was earned- on eight hits while striking out four and not issuing a walk. He has 36 strikeouts in 39 innings of work and has a 1.18 WHIP.

Thomas Jankins (Pilgrims): Jankins, a righty from Quinnipiac, started the season on a 29 2/3 scoreless innings streak and has been absolutely dominant for the best team in the South. He's 5-0 with a 0.40 ERA (which leads the league by 0.35 over teammate Nicholas Berger) and hasn't given up a run over his last 11 1/3 innings. He's made five starts, four of which where he didn't allow a run and all were quality starts. Jankins set down the side with a strikeout in the All-Star game and has yet to face the Schooners.
